Last November, I traveled to Japan with Reyn Spooner to document the craftsmanship behind Spooner Kloth — the fabric that defines their iconic aloha shirts.

Over the course of the trip, I visited three different factories, each responsible for a distinct step in turning raw fiber into finished fabric.

What struck me most wasn’t just the technical mastery, but the consistency of care. Nearly 50 years ago, this began as a search for something better. Today, it’s a long-standing partnership rooted in trust, patience, and a shared belief that craftsmanship always matters.
